Summary/Abstract: Globalization could be understood from the enlargement and redefinition of the power relations perspective: firstly, nation-states have functionally became parts of a vaster pattern of global changes and, secondly, the idea of global politics underlines the complexity of the interpenetrations that transcend states and societies, adding them a large network of agencies and organizations. On the other hand the article stresses the fact that globalization has eroded the nation state’s monopoly of scientific knowledge and its ability to use that knowledge to reproduce (class) power, even as the nature of class power relations itself moves away from nation state control. Placed between these two challenges of globalization the state loses its traditional characteristics and in the new world the trends of supra-nationality and devolution go hand in hand.
