Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to a comparative study of the cults to the warrior-saints George and Demetrius in medieval literature and folklore. The first part of the text outlines the development of St. George's cult, and analyzes a little known miracle of the saint, in which he defeats the devil. The author also analyzes the development of the cult to St. Demetrius in the Middle Ages and the later period of the Revival. At that time a new translation of Passio i Miracula s. Demetrii appears, which is especially popular in the Bulgarian homilies of the 18-th century. The second part of the article examines the iconography of the two warrior-saints, which are presented together in a number of images. The author considers these images to be a reflection of the twin cult to St. George and St. Demetrius. The folklore dimensions of this cult among the southern Slavs are studied in the last part of the text.
