Summary/Abstract: The article looks at the structure of budgetary spending in Poland in the context of the country’s budgetary policy. The article begins with an overview of the volumes and changes within the structure of budget expenditure in Poland. In the next section the author deals with the issue of fixed expenditures. In order to provide a better insight, the analysis is based on the data from a 3-year period (2006–2008) with the use of performance- based approach. As the social spending (especially pension expenditure) is the largest item in the budget, in the final section the author discusses the issue of pension payments in the light of expected demographic changes in Poland.
