Summary/Abstract: In consideration of the newly discovered presence of one very well preserved example of the largest and most commented edition of Andrea Alciato’s book Emblemata cum Commentariis Amplissimis (Padova: Pietro Paolo Tozzi, 1621) in the Franciscan monastery in Kraljeva Sutjeska, this article presents the infl uence of the book of emblems by Alciato (fi rst editions in 1531 and 1534) to the Renaissance and Baroque art. The rapport between figural arts and book of emblems, as well as larger possibilities of the interpretation and understanding the works of art in the light of the emblem popularity, is discussed by comparison of the emblem CXCV Pietas filiorum in parentesand the sculptural marble group by Gian Lorenzo Bernini – Aeneas, Anchises and Ascanius (1618-1619) – in the Gallery Borghese in Rome.
