Summary/Abstract: The article presents emotions and values in the press obituaries of the victims of the plane crash in Smolensk. The obituaries of the presidential couple and 94 other “passengers of the tragic flight”, published in the time of national mourning were the object of the research. The content analysis of those short texts shows how a part of Polish society thinks and talks about the history of our country, the plane crash and its victims, about life and death in the light of national martyrdom.
