Summary/Abstract: In a wider perspective corporate governance code determines relations of stock issuers with market environment whereas in a narrower one it concerns ways of creating effective relations with current or potential investors. Companies which follow a code of best practices in the field of communication with shareholders are perceived as trustworthy ones. They conduct effective and transparent information policy and employ modern tools of electronic communication. Long-term policy of building investor relations, which is incorporated into a corporate strategy, renders benefits both to investors and to stock issuers. Investors recognize such companies as safe because they protect interests of shareholders and thus generate lower investment risk. A company which takes care of good communication with investors is more competitive than others what reduces its cost of capital. In this context the paper validates a thesis that although capital market participants become generally more aware of investor relations some Polish publicly listed companies still do not follow standards recommended by the Warsaw Stock Exchange Supervisory Board.
