Failure of the self-regulation mechanism. A theoretical approach

Summary/Abstract: Self-regulation mechanism plays an essential part in normal psychological functioning, while its failure causes many difficulties in our daily life. In this paper we focus on presenting the self-regulation main components, emphasizing the role of self theories and structures and the control theory as designed by Carver and Scheier. Based on these theoretical background, four types of self-regulation failure are further analyzed. They are underregulation, overregulation, misregulation, and system malfunction.
