Summary/Abstract: The scientific interest in the self-concept begins as early as the fall of the 19th century. Not withstanding the century long interest, numerous ques¬tions related to the Self-concept are still unsolved. The paper is an attempt for a clear theoretical approach to Self-concept as a personality construct. The text has a two parts composition. The first part is suggesting an exact definition of Self-concept. In the second part the structure of construct is discussed, and the theoretical models of Self-concept measurement are reviewed. Among the various approaches the Self-concept has been investi¬gated, the existence of multidimensional hierarchically structured Self ap¬pears to be possible. The Self is built on preserved information in someone's memory, and is associated with evaluations, expectations and behavioural tendencies, which could be methodologically tested, measured and studied.
