Summary/Abstract: Improvement of doctoral programme studies and preparation of researchers has drawn considerable attention recently, emphasising links between higher education and science, preparation of researchers, responding to the demands of a broader market and increase in the number of doctoral students who pursue career in their research area, having defended their dissertation. The goals are set to prepare specialists of high quality who hold level 8 qualifications, according to the European Qualifications Framework and are able to find appropriate solutions in complicated and unexpected work situations. In order to prepare a highly qualified specialist, it is necessary to define the competencies of such a specialist and indicate how scientific research work should be prepared. What is more important, while designing study curriculum it is necessary to foresee the developmental opportunities and take into account doctoral student’s needs
