Petersburg societies of the reciprocal credit in the 19th century

Summary/Abstract: Based on the published sources of the second half of the 19th century and rich historiography, the author observes the development of Petersburg societies of the reciprocal credit established in the capital after the example of the West European countries. It is concluded that in spite of the economic difficulties in the country the societies of the reciprocal credit acquired a reputation as perspective and reliable credit organizations able to defend the interests of depositors and compete in the market.
