Summary/Abstract: Every year a group of the foremost Polish linguists selects the word of the year. Not surprisingly, the year 2011 was best summed up by ‘presidency’, an obvious reference the first-ever Polish exercise in organising the work of the Council of the European Union. But if we tried to determine the most oft-used word in European or world politics, would anyone doubt that it would turn out to be ‘crisis’? For how many years running now has this been the case, and how long will it remain so?
