Summary/Abstract: Mugham is the unique surviving monument of Azerbaijans`s musical culture and its codes of civilization that comes through the dusty roads of history without becoming exhausted and day by day increasing its strength. Not only one feels love, affliction, separation, longing for country in its tunes and notes, but also hears in his rawof the heart. Mugham is not only an musical art performed with tar, def and violin (musical instruments) ;further more it is a nation`s and civilization`s passion, determination and hope which sustains it. Mugham is the DNA of Azerbaijanian people where its historical and social genes is written. Learning mugham is not only playing music also becoming aware of their culture, history, ethics and manners in which inherited from ancestors. Mugham is a school, a wealth. Mugham is an invaluable wealth so that UNESCO included in the list of intangible heritage of humanity which is preserved masterpieces in 2003. With the 85 type melodies of mugham which is used in Azerbaijani weddings, condolences and in Nowruz festivals and widely performed with 7 tunes it contributes to literature and art unexpectedly. By 2000 Mugham has performed on international stages with a large amount of audience. Although it is not known as Mugham in Turkey it is listened delightfully as well Azeri songs. The art of mugham shaping the national identity is considered one of the important cultural values Azerbaijan. It is an inexhaustible source for Azerbaijani culture, music, art, composers, painters, sculptors and poets.
