Summary/Abstract: The focus of the authors’ research in this article is the intensity of anger and anxiety in people serving a custodial sentence. The study was conducted on a sample of 200 convicts serving prison sentences in the Detention Centre in Kielce. The criterion for selecting the group was the court’s decision on the type of crime and the size of the punishment. The age of the study group was 20–60 years. The groups were selected homogeneously in terms of age, type of crime committed, as these factors significantly modify the outcome. The aim of this article is to show the differences in the intensity of anger and anxiety between female and male convicts. The following hypothesis was adopted: there are differences in feelings of anger and anxiety intensity between female and male convicts. Convicted women reveal higher levels of anger and higher sensitivity to public opinion. In order to verify the hypothesis, original tools were used, i.e. The Social Fear Scale and the Anger Expression Scale. Hypothesis adopted in the study: There are differences in feelings of anger and anxiety between convicted women and men. Convicted women reveal higher anger intensity and higher sensitivity to public opinion as measured by the social anxiety scale than convicted men; was partially confirmed. According to the results, there are statistically significant differences between groups of convicted men and women in the intensity of anger. Convicted women show higher levels of feelings of anger than convicted men. On the other hand, in terms of feelings of social anxiety, the results obtained show that there are no statistically significant differences between male and female convicts.
