Summary/Abstract: The pattern (matrix) that casts a political community is almost identical according to the contractual philosophers. From a natural state, exercising their freedom, the individuals sign a contract that shifts them from a natural state to a social state, a political community. The signed contract involves the renunciation of several rights, and the state of the individual differs according to the rights they gave up by signing the contract. The current paper is intended to point out the differences in between two groups of individuals : one group whose members would hypothetically sign the contract proposed by John Locke and another group whose members would (hypothetically) sign the contract proposed by Thomas.
