Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the authors discuss the timing of the monastic tonsure of the Serbian Empress Jelena, the widow of Emperor Dušan. By examining existing views and drawing upon the coincidence of the fixed feast of Saint Elizabeth the Wonderworker and the movable feast of Easter in 1356, the authors propose a precise date—Sunday, April 24, 1356—when Empress Jelena received the monastic tonsure and took the name Elizabeth.
