Summary/Abstract: The text is based on a 23 year long research work on the proliferation of the Bulgarian traditional dance post 1963 in Bulgaria and abroad. The phrenomena conditionaly clasified as „dancing the Bulgarian way“ is of urban origine and has been studied/analyzed by the author within the ftamework of diferent projects she has conducted in Europe, North and South Americas and Asia. Crossing over on several ocasions the boundaries of distinct geopolotical contexts and bringing together individuals of diferent nationalities, it can be used as an optical lense for the purpose of analyzing and comparing the coresponding human societies. In this sense the author presents four models of dancing the Bulgarian way: Soviet and American ( both 30 dating from before 1989), Democratic and Emigrants‘ (gaining popularity post 2007). For the purpose of portraying dancing as a form of communication, the author offers an additional theoretical matrix on the micro-level, which delineates the aproach of the enthusiasts into three motivational complexes and which views the dancing individual as a semаntic star
