Summary/Abstract: The article examines the pivotal role of Queen Theudelinda in the processes of stabilization and integration of the Lombard state in Italy at the turn of the sixth and seventh centuries. Owing to her prestigious dynastic lineage, the queen legitimized the authority of her husbands, Authari and Agilulf, thereby ensuring political continuity after a period of interregnum. The study also highlights her religious engagement as a Catholic, manifested in her sustained correspondence and contacts with Pope Gregory the Great. Furthermore, Theudelinda exercised significant influence over her husbands, facilitating political relations and contributing to the mitigation of conflicts. The article presents Theudelinda as an advocate for the incorporation of the Lombards into Roman society, initiating transformative social and cultural changes. The analyses portray the queen as a central figure in Lombard statehood at the turn of the sixth and seventh centuries, and her actions as crucial factors in the Lombards’ successful establishment on the Apennine Peninsula.
