Summary/Abstract: The date of the erection of the Memoria S. Stephani in Hippo Regius is well attested by the history of the veneration of St Stephen which spread to North Africa only after the discovery of his tomb in 417 and is confirmed by Augustine’s writings: in the years 425/426. However, its location remains a matter of surmise. The article collects all sources pertaining to the veneration of St Stephen in Hippo Regius and suggests a new hypothesis for the location of his shrine.
