Summary/Abstract: The topic is both broad and complex. I propose that we embark on a literary journey that takes us from Plautus to the great playwrights of world literature that followed. Avarice has been a rich subject for great writers. The word “avarice” obviously comes from Latin and means both stinginess and selfishness, as well as greed – an insatiable desire for money and wealth.
