Summary/Abstract: The present study aims to describe the manifestation of the accusativus duplex construction in Romanian, viewed as a syntactic inheritance from Latin and examined through the syntactic position of the secondary complement. In Latin, constructions involving two accusatives dependent on the same verb display several syntactic realizations, one of which involves a verb simultaneously governing an accusative denoting the person and an accusative denoting the thing. The comparative analysis of the source language, Latin, and the target language, Romanian, reveals a remarkable continuity in the class of governing verbs occurring in double-accusative constructions, as well as significant innovations in the syntactic realization of the secondary complement. These developments reflect the specific evolution of Romanian within the Romance linguistic context.
