Summary/Abstract: This article offers a philological investigation into the semantic field of boats in the Romanian language, examining the historical evolution, etymological origins, and structural characteristics of nautical terminology. The study emphasizes the linguistic formation and adaptation of maritime vocabulary through loanwords and semantic shifts. It also analyses the influence of contact languages – such as Latin, Greek, Slavic, Turkish, French and English – on the development of this lexical field. By tracing the diachronic changes and the persistence of archaic terms, the article sheds light on how Romanian nautical lexicon reflects both the linguistic heritage and socio-cultural context of the Carpatho-Danubian-Pontic area. The research contributes to the broader understanding of Romanian lexical history and the interplay between language, seafaring and cultural identity.
