Summary/Abstract: This study examines the impact of AI-based image/video generation on film aesthetics through the film The Frost (2024). The purpose of the research is to analyze the transformations that AI-based image/video generation brings about in film aesthetics. This example was chosen from among AIgenerated films because it is one of the early examples of that kind of film production. The scenes in the film, which tell the story of a group of people investigating an unknown signal in Antarctica, were generated algorithmically using generative AI tools such as DALL•E 2, D-ID, Midjourney, and Runway ML. In the analysis, grounded in Sigmund Freud’s concept of the “uncanny” and Masahiro Mori’s “uncanny valley,” and employing Christian Metz’s semiotic analysis method as a complementary tool, it was determined that the AI-generated shots and characters sometimes exhibit distorted forms and at other times hyperrealistic ones. Furthermore, it was observed that AI-based image/video generation directly contributes to the film's narrative. In conclusion, it has been shown that AI-based production transforms cinematic narrative by creating a unique aesthetic language shaped around the axis of the uncanny and establishes a new paradigm in film aesthetics. In this context, the study aims to offer a conceptual framework for future research focused on AI aesthetics by examining the effects of human-AI collaboration on film aesthetics in contemporary film production through uncanny theory and semiotic analysis.
