Summary/Abstract: The goal of this study is to present travel writing as a valuable source for research into folk linguistics and the linguistic landscape. In the text, we analyze the collection of short travel sketches by A. C. Nor Putování na dluh [Journey on Credit]. The text, first published in 1927 and subsequently in a revised and expanded edition in 1946, is examined from two perspectives: as material containing the author’s non-expert linguistic observations and comments on place names and dialects, viewed within the framework of folk linguistics, and as a source for research into the historical linguistic landscape. The study further examines the difficulties involved in defining a folk linguist.
