Summary/Abstract: The contribution of Protestant theologian Gerd Theissen to a theology of sacramental dynamics in the liturgy of early Christianity – from symbolic prophetic actions to mystical rituals. Gerd Theissen, a prominent Protestant theologian, has made significant contributions to the understanding of sacramental dynamics in the liturgy of early Christianity. His work focuses on the transition from symbolic-prophetic actions to mystical rituals in the development of Christian worship. Theissen argues that the early Christians engaged in a variety of symbolic prophetic actions during their worship gatherings. These actions were meant to convey deeper spiritual truths and to create a sense of participation in the divine. Examples of such actions include the breaking of bread, the sharing of wine, and the washing of feet. Theissen sees these actions as embodying the prophetic message of Jesus and as a way for the early Christians to express their faith and commitment to the Gospel.
