Summary/Abstract: The study is an attempt to assess the normative and practical effects of introducing the Act on proceedings towards persons with mental disorders posing a threat to the life, health or sexual freedom of others, colloquially known as the "act on beasts" or lex Trynkiewicz. The authors take a critical view of the Act in question, pointing to the illusory nature of the realisation of the legislator's assumptions and the threats arising from improper judicial practice associated with depriving of liberty persons who have not committed a new crime.
