Summary/Abstract: The article presents issues related to the security of public documents and its impact on the effectiveness of the public sector. The development of the information society, and the intensified role of modern information and communication technologies, is driving socio-economic change. Contemporary strategies in this area include e-government, seen as one way of increasing the effectiveness of the public sector. E-government implementation strategies contained in European Union directives foresee benefits such as e-government services that improve the transparency of public administration and limit corruption, and reduce administrative burdens by cutting bureaucracy. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic meant that institutions with the tools to support remote work almost overnight enabled office staff to work from home as safer during the pandemic, while also increasing the guarantee of maintaining operational capacity and business continuity. Almost all public administration offices radically changed their internal working systems and modes of contact with the external environment. It became necessary to handle matters using electronic tools and remote communication, and the spontaneous digitisation of services offered by public offices became a reality, directly affecting the effectiveness of the public sector. This article discusses the legal issues related to document security, with particular emphasis on electronic signatures and documents. Given the growing role of electronic documents, the security of signatures and documents plays an increasingly important role in Poland and worldwide. The conclusion is that public writing and documents are a guarantor of the security of legal and financial transactions, which directly translates into the effectiveness of the public sector.
