Summary/Abstract: In the era of high technology, the law is confronted with one of the greatest existential challenges – the clash with the machine’s autonomous will. This article is dedicated to a series of problems, caused by the newly emerged phenomenon – artificial intelligence. While the engineers are wondering ,,How the computer cod is working? We, the lawyers, have to ask ourselves equally important question: ,,How it’s presence will affect the public relations?”. In this paper, I examine the problem of how to understand and regulate a phenomenon so dynamic that any legal norm appears outdated and ineffective even before it enters into force. Starting from the definition of the concept of artificial intelligence and going trough the various challenges that this technology brings, the article discusses potential solution – a completely new type of legislative approaches, such as those embedded in the EU Artificial intelligence Act and in Joel Reidenberg’s and Lawrence Lessing’s concept of the computer code as a source of law.
