Summary/Abstract: The paper contains an analysis of the cycle of poems “Oči Sutjeske” (“The Eyes of Sutjeska”) by Vasko Popa, originally published in poetry collection named Nepočin-polje (Unrest-field, 1956), and then in Kuća nasred druma (The House on the Highroad, 1975). Starting from the modest critical and academic reception of these poems, the paper analyzes the aforementioned cycle as an example of a poetically shaped cosmogonic model, emphasizing the recurrences of this structural mythical model. Along with the cycles “Kost kosti” (“One Bone to Another”) and “Belutak” (“The Quartz Pebble”), also published in Nepočin- polje, this cycle of poems represents one of Popa’s earliest written poetic cosmogonies. Because of that “The Eyes of Sutjeska” are significant for a more thorough understanding of his poetry, especially lyrical structures, and even entire poetry books in which poetically shaped mythical structural models are also present, such as Sporedno nebo (Secondary Heaven, 1968), Uspravna zemlja (Earth Erect, 1972) i Vučja so (Wolf Salt, 1975).
