Summary/Abstract: This article explores the kibbutz as a historical and social model for sustainable rural development, focusing on its potential adaptation in the Bulgarian context. Through historical analysis, field surveys, and interviews, it examines the viability of applying principles such as collective ownership, shared responsibility, and democratic self-governance to depopulated Bulgarian villages. Findings indicate public openness and interest in cooperative living models. Rather than proposing a direct replication, the kibbutz is presented as an inspiring framework for developing new forms of rural resilience and social cohesion.
