Summary/Abstract: The present article deals with the issue of translating colloquial and non-standard elements from Croatian into Czech. On the basis of an analysis of a translation from contemporary Croatian literature, we provide a practical example of the use of Common Czech when translating the above-mentioned elements. The situation for Czech differs from that for other languages, especially due to the existence of Common Czech, and that is also reflected in literary translation. Our analysis is performed on four language levels—phonological, morphological, syntactic, and lexical.
