Summary/Abstract: Assertive communication is a fundamental element in psychological interventions addressing acute distress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and addictive behaviors. Combining empathy with firmness, assertiveness helps restore internal control and self-esteem, facilitating recovery. This paper explores the role of assertive communication in therapeutic relationships with traumatized and addicted individuals, emphasizing congruent, respectful, and non-judgmental expression. In addiction counseling, assertiveness enables psychologists to establish clear boundaries, manage resistance, and promote clients’ accountability. Integrating assertive communication as a professional skill strengthens authentic connection and supports identity reconstruction in both trauma and addiction recovery contexts.
