Summary/Abstract: This paper provides insight into the characteristics of women’s social position and the challenges they face in Bosnian-Herzegovinian society. By applying document content analysis and thematic analysis, four key thematic areas were identified: women’s everyday lives, particularly in relation to unpaid work, which is often invisible and socially unrecognized; education as a domain in which gender-based expectations, roles, and behavioural patterns are shaped from the earliest stages of life; employment, which continues to be characterized by various forms of women’s disadvantaged position in the labour market; and intersectionality, referring to the complexity of identities that may further deepen experiences of discrimination and social exclusion. The analysis indicates that women’s social position is shaped not only by individual circumstances but also by broader social structures, norms, and institutions that influence their life opportunities. In this context, social work can play a significant role in recognizing and mitigating the consequences of gender inequalities through the protection of women’s rights, provision of support, empowerment, and advocacy for social change. As a profession grounded in the principles of social justice, human rights, and inclusion, social work has a long-standing connection with issues of gender equality and the advancement of the position of marginalized groups.
