Summary/Abstract: Open access (O.A.), as we will refer to it in the following lines, refers to a set of principles, practices, and norms that enable the online distribution of research results and scientific works from any field, for free, without fees or any other types of barriers, whether related to nationality, geographical space, or copyright.O.A. represents the new paradigm in information and documentation, a true transformative force in the dissemination and accessibility of information. Open access platforms are both repositories of knowledge and active facilitators, supporters, and educators in promoting O.A. to researchers, institutions, and the general public. These platforms allow free, open, and globally accessible information and documentation. The impact of O.A. on the traditional library is a profound change in the relationship between libraries and the academic community as a whole. O.A. initiatives have reshaped the relationship between users and publishers, library services, allowing immediate and unconditional financial access. The endless dilemma for all those in the library and related sectors is connected to the end of the book and information in material form, as well as the total and permanent replacement of people working in libraries. We believe that an ineffable and subtle attraction resides in the pages of printed books, an attraction that will continue to delight the senses of readers of all ages and at all times.
