Summary/Abstract: The concept of a "green library" can be applied both to the architecture of the building housing the library and to its inventory or the services it provides. A "green building" is economical, ecological, and cost-effective, and the concept of a "green library" is associated with several objectives. In the case of a newly constructed library, the ecological conditions of the land, the climate, infrastructure, and the use of local resources for construction should be taken into consideration. For older buildings, eco-friendly renovation includes thermal insulation, the installation of energy-efficient lighting systems (such as energy meters, motion sensor lights), and the use of renewable energy sources (solar panels, geothermal energy), along with water conservation practices or green information technology and adherence to the principles of the circular economy (recycling, reuse, etc.).Additionally, environmentally conscious library services are reflected in the library's collection development policy (through its acquisition strategy), in the library's communication interface (web pages with ecological themes, news from the field, and book recommendations on environmental topics), and in the organization of various eco-themed events, ecological clubs, workshops, etc. This study is focused, in its first part, on describing the concepts and highlighting some historical aspects of green libraries, along with examples of good practices gathered from around the world. The second part is dedicated to "green libraries" and library services that align with this concept in Romania.
