Book donations to public libraries – theoretical approaches

Summary/Abstract: Donations represent an important contribution to the development of cultural and scientific heritage, as well as to the preservation of local and national cultural memory. The local fund is a unique, original fund, characteristic of each county or municipal public library. The local memory funds and the special collections have precious documents received as donations (incunabula, old Romanian and foreign book, ex-libris, books with dedications and autographs) from great Romanian personalities, who chose to donate their valuable personal libraries to the community they come from. Over time, the document collections of the ""Dinicu Golescu"" Argeş County Library have been developed through the purchase of Romanian and foreign documents, as well as through donations, which have played a significant role in completing the library's collections. Many of these documents are of great value and holci special importance for the preservation of local memory.
