Summary/Abstract: Corporate governance plays a significant role in the functioning of publicly listed banks. These institutions are among the largest financial entities, and their potential failure may lead to destabilization of the entire banking sector. Effective corporate governance mechanisms can support the safe operation of banks, thereby contributing to the stability of the financial system. The aim of this article is to review existing empirical studies on the impact of selected corporate governance elements on the market value of banks. A narrative review of the literature was employed. The analysis shows that the effectiveness of statutory bodies (including the separation of CEO and chair roles, independence, size, meeting frequency, and diversity) and ownership structure (insider, institutional, and foreign ownership, as well as ownership concentration) may influence the market value of banks. However, the direction of these relationships is often ambiguous and depends on the institutional context. The review also identifies research gaps, particularly the limited number of studies focusing on banks in Central Europe.
