Summary/Abstract: The distinctive characteristics of work in the cultural and creative sectors—including intensive emotional labour, continuous exposure to evaluation, the insecurity of project-based employment, and the blurring of boundaries between work and private life—substantially increase the risk of burnout. Drawing on the Job Demands– Resources (JD–R) model and the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this conceptual review systematically identifies the sector-specific stressors associated with artistic work and examines psychological resilience as a multidimensional protective factor that can be intentionally developed. The analysis is situated within the theoretical framework of sustainable careers, which defines long-term career sustainability through the interaction of health, satisfaction, and productivity. The paper identifies both individual- and organizational-level strategies for strengthening resilience while critically discussing the limitations of resilience discourse, particularly the risk of individualizing structural problems and the ongoing debate concerning the conceptual distinction between burnout and depression. Finally, the paper highlights the need for longitudinal and intervention-based research to advance knowledge in this field.
