Summary/Abstract: As an important economic factor, the Cincars represented a social element which was often key in economic, cultural and political developments in Ottoman Niš during the 19th century. Therefore, in order to better assess their influence, to identify (and confirm) their general characteristics, as well as the matrix of social behavior, this paper analyzes the data about the Cincars provided by the temettuat defter (profit register) of Niš from 1845.
