Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to describe the need for the development of pedagogical and professional competencies of students studying in the “Albanian language and Literature” profile, as mastery of the skills that students must acquire to achieve success in teaching and to become skilled professionals. A mixed method has been applied and data were collected from questionnaires, observations, and student documentation. The data collected from the questionnaire served to compare the current approach to the preparation of new teachers and the competencies they should acquire in the process of professional training. We will prove and argue that the acquisition of appropriate pedagogical competencies for students of professional training should not focus only on the skills, habits and attitudes expressed by the concept of pedagogical competence, but is related to the change in the structure of professional training, to improve this process in forming and preparing competent teachers of language and literature.
