Summary/Abstract: The paper is concerned with the memories of the work experience during the socialistic period in SerЬia (Yugoslavia). In spite several major peculiarities of the socialism in Yugoslavia (the independent foreign policy, private property of land, the great role of migrant workers, and finally, more freedom in everyday life ), economy development was rather like in other socialist countries. Yugoslavia entered the period of economic stagnation in 1970's in 1980's like aJI other European socialist countries. The common feature of the interviewees is that they experienced social and educational promotion in the period of socialism, and for most of them socialism meant improvement in social and economic position. They distinguish three periods of their working lives (post war reconstruction, golden age, the crisis). The positive features of their work experience are: staЬility and protection of jobs, living standard, the respect for "commoners", solidarity and equality, holidays and festivities. The negative memories аге focused on uwustified housing policy and Party privileges. This memories of socialist work experience could influence expectations in the period of post-socialist transformation.
