Summary/Abstract: This study explores Vitalie Verhola’s “Music for 11 Instruments” through the lens of instrumental theatre, interpreting itas a psychological ‚monospectacle’ of the composer’s inner self. Thanks to its timbral configuration, which incorporates almost all instruments from the two principal orchestral families (aerophones and strings), the work provides fertile ground for thematic elaboration. The metamorphosis of themes isunderscored by the character indications provided by the composer in different sections—animated, calm, solemn, or ironic. The variational principle is further reinforced by genre references that evoke the hymn, song, or scherzo. The composition isdistinguished by its bold musical language, articulated through diverse textures, procedures, and avant-garde techniques suchas heterophony, polyphony, palindrome, figuration, stretto, and dispersion. In this sense, Music for 11 Instruments clearlydemonstrates the young composer’s achievements in exploring avant-garde compositional techniques.
