Summary/Abstract: In the context of the growing demand for sustainable public transport, the efficiency of reservation systems in rail transport has become increasingly significant. This paper presents an analysis of the functional limitations of the seat reservation system employed on long-distance trains operated by PKP Intercity, with the Szczecin-Warsaw route serving as a case study. Although seats are available on partial segments of the route, the inability to make a single reservation for the entire journey suggests a misalignment between seat allocation mechanisms and passenger needs. The objectives of this study are to identify the causes of this issue, evaluate its economic consequences, and propose measures to improve the system's efficiency and transparency. The case study method was employed, focusing on the reservation system of PKP Intercity for train service IC 83100. The analysis draws on empirical data obtained from the ticket sales system and is complemented by an assessment of the PlaceFinder application as well as the socio-economic context of the railway market. The findings indicate the absence of dynamic seat allocation within the PKP Intercity system, which leads to fragmented reservations, increased travel costs, and diminished passenger comfort. The contribution of this paper lies in combining technical analysis with empirical validation and in formulating systemic recommendations.
