Summary/Abstract: This article traces the historical development of translation and retranslation, emphasizing the shifts in theoretical paradigms and their implications for translation practice. Beginning with ancient foundational texts, the discussion moves through key milestones, from Jakobson’s linguistic model to contemporary ethical and cultural critiques by Berman and Venuti. The concept of retranslation emerges as an essential process for negotiating linguistic, cultural, and ideological transformations over time. This review reveals how translation studies have progressively embraced the complexity of translation as a culturally embedded, ethically charged, and interpretive practice.
