Summary/Abstract: This article examines the role of computer-assisted translation (CAT) in contemporary translation practice, with particular attention to its relevance in literary and specialized translation contexts. It explores the conceptual foundations of CAT, distinguishing it from machine translation and emphasizing its function as a support system rather than a replacement for human translators. The study analyzes the evolution of CAT tools from early terminology databases and translation memory systems to modern cloud-based and AI-enhanced platforms. It further outlines the structured stages of the CAT workflow, including project preparation, interactive translation, post-editing, quality assurance, and exportation. The advantages of CAT, such as increased productivity, terminological consistency, workflow efficiency, and collaborative project management, are under discussion alongside its limitations, including technical complexity, segmentation constraints, high costs, and the risk of over-reliance on automated suggestions. Attention is given to the implications of CAT for translator training and professional identity. The article concludes that while CAT significantly enhances translation efficiency and consistency, its effective use depends on critical awareness, proper training, and the balanced integration of technological tools with human linguistic expertise.
