Summary/Abstract: Austro-Hungarian military rail transport most often appears in historiography in the context of the outbreak of the Great War and the course of mobilisation, the effects of which impacted the course of actions on both the Serbian and the north-eastern fronts. However, the conflict itself, and thus the functioning of this key element of the Danubian Monarchy’s military communications, continued. This article presents a report from a later episode, namely from November 1914, when the decision was made to withdraw the Second Army commanded by General Böhm-Ermolli from the front line and relocate it to cover Silesia, where it participated in the subsequent phases of the Łódź operation. The document vividly illustrates the scale of difficulties faced by the executors of Feldtransportleitung 5, including the congestion of railway lines with evacuated wounded and sick personnel, troop trains returning from the renewed siege of Przemyśl, infrastructural deficiencies, and unauthorised interference in railway transport operations, among others.
