Summary/Abstract: This article explores the importance of theoretical assumptions for educational practice by analyzing a selected problem, the dilemma expressed in the phrase: reason or relationship. “Reason” here indicates the anthropological necessity of undertaking educational activities for the sake of the student’s own well-being, while “relationship” primarily speaks to an anthropological image that demands the educator’s unconditional acceptance of the student. Both theoretical models guide and justify different educational practices, which are presented in the article. Furthermore, the article addresses the problem of seeking a solution to the dilemma both on theoretical and consistently practical grounds.
