Summary/Abstract: The text is based on the research section of Eliška Vojtěchová‘s bachelor‘s thesis, How teachers evaluate texts written in a depiction stylistic form, defended in 2024 at the Institute of Czech Language and Theory of Communication, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, under the supervision of Hana Dufková. The co-author of this study used a questionnaire survey to investigate the approaches to the assessment of essays among teachers at primary and lower-secondary schools. Specifically, the research focused on depiction stylistic form and investigated both general and specific attitudes: in the questionnaire, teachers assessed one authentic depiction, provided by Cermat, from various perspectives and in various ways. The questionnaire was completed by 14 teachers, which is too small a number for general conclusions, yet the data obtained show how differently teachers approach the assessment of essays. The sample provides an overview of how the summative and verbal assessment of a single piece of work can differ: in terms of form, content, and ideas. Among other things, we believe that the data show that this inconsistency is also related to different requirements for the characteristics that a depiction should meet. We would like to use the research data to stimulate discussion on whether depiction should continue to be taught as a separate stylistic form.
