Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to identify the reasons for misunderstood information on the value of the APRC loan cost indicator. On the basis on logical analysis of the APRC calculation formula contained in the Consumer Credit Act, the study of scarce literature on the APRC and literature concerning the problem of misunderstanding of numerical information as well as the study of the content on the websites of state institutions dealing with the control and supervision of financial market in Poland, well-known lending institutions and financial portals, the author concluded that the APRC mathematical formula is too complicated for legal regulations intended to serve every citizen. It has made it impossible for decades to notice that the Polish name of the indicator (RRSO) misleads borrowers (1), that the information on the APRC contained in the laws and reproduced for years in public, also by experts and state institutions, is incomplete and untrue (2), that the APRC formula is wrong and does not correspond to the purpose for which this measure was created (3) and finally, that the necessary knowledge is too specialised even to undertake a scientific discourse on APRC (4).
