Summary/Abstract: A formidable polemical journalist, a charismatic figure of interwar Bucharest society, leader of the Burning Bush movement, monk, and hieroschemamonk who confessed his faith at the cost of his life, Fr. Daniil Sandu Tudor remains a model of the confessor-intellectual whose faith and dignity continue to shine in times of crisis. He may well be regarded as the foremost mystical poet in Romanian culture, as the author of the Akathist Hymn to the Burning Bush Icon of the Mother of God, a work that reveals both the refinement of the intellectual, the depth of a theologian rooted in the Hesychast tradition, and a man who lived the Truth to his very last drop of blood.
