Summary/Abstract: Guided by tradition, Mircea Hristescu transformed his artistic practice, shifting away from expressive, visually seductive painting toward the mortification of the canvas and the gradual “wearing down” of black until the work itself “is resurrected”. Through the metaphors of the stake (the horizontal and vertical dimensions of tradition) and the graft (shared creative labor), the author rejects the pride of originality. Instead, he proposes an art rooted in obedience, in which resemblance to the great masters arises from love, and the act of painting becomes a means of hearing God.
